Ladies and Gentlemen, we have Piano

This is my new piano (read: Christmas present for several years to come). It’s a used GEM rp700 digital piano (NOT electronic keyboard, thankyouverymuch) that we found on Saturday for a very competitive price. It was delivered last night when I was at work. Went away to class, no piano; come back from class and suddenly, piano!  It has 80 keys, realistic action on the keys (in fact, they are a little stiff–I just have to get used to it–but I prefer that to the loosey-goosey keys you get on keyboards). It has 16 voices including a bass voice using which I played a walking bass line for Troy to play over last night.) The keys are also touch sensitive to how much force you use and responds with louder or softer notes like an acoustic piano. And did you know that the technology for digital pianos is based on organ technology?

I’m working upstairs today partly to keep myself from the temptation of fiddling with the piano instead of focusing on work.
